There over 700 breweries in Australia. But Victoria has more than any other state. New South Wales is gaining, but the rise of craft beer there, and in other states like Queensland, is relatively recent. A clutch of pioneering craft breweries, some with over 20 years in operation, helped inspire and establish a maturing craft beer scene in Victoria.

Many of these independent craft breweries are in regional Victoria. Bendigo and it’s surrounding areas are home to some of Australia’s most well-known craft breweries, as well as some fledgeling operations making great beer. Situated in picturesque regional settings and popular tourist destinations, they’re well worth a visit if you’re in the area. They also make a great place for a day trip.
