Bendigo Beer Home Brew Comp: from Homebrewers to Brewery Owners
Each year we host the Annual Bendigo Beer Home Brew Comp - an opportunity for local homebrewers to showcase their brewing skills and interesting creations. Now in its 10th year, what started as a small showcase of Bendigo’s rising amateur brewers, has progressed over the last decade to not only be one of the best days out of the year, but also a launching pad for future award-winning brewers you love today. The competition is separated into three categories - Best Overall, True to Style, Most Unique and People’s Choice - all of which are judged by some of the industry’s most seasoned professionals (and of course the people of Bendigo who come to test the People’s Choice beers on show). You just need to look back at some of the past Homebrew Competition winners to see the incredible standard and passion that will be on show on the day. Bandicoot Brewing’s Head Brewer and one of this year’s judges, Tracey Green, won the Best Overall in the Bendigo Beer Home Brew Comp with her English Porter.Pete Martin, who secured the position of Head Brewer at Tooborac Brewery after his success in the Bendigo Home Brew Comp, scored his first win in 2011 with a Vienna Lager and his second win in 2013 with a Rye IPA - both voted Best Overall. “If you can dream it, you can brew it,” is some great advice that Pete has passed on for those thinking about mixing their own blend; words we think all homebrewers should live by. Judges joining Tracey Green this year also include Shedshaker Head Brewer Brad Iles, The Hop Supply Co owner Scott Toll, Macedon Brew Club’s Rhys Allen and our own Trev Birks. Bendigo Beer Home Brew Comp is sure to be a seriously relaxing day out, your ticket provides a taste of each unique homebrew, a chance at winning sweet beer-related stuff on lucky door prizes, and the opportunity to influence the crowning of the People’s Choice prize winner.Come down to the Cambrian Hotel this Saturday 26th October to get involved and see what the brewers of your future favourite beers have to offer.Doors open 12pm with first pour 1pm. We’ll see you there!
